Hola…
Hi, I’m Sra. Constancia, mother and Spanish teacher. In many occasions mothers have said to me: “I’ve taught him the colors, the animals, the numbers a little bit of the abc’s… and now I’m stuck. I don’t know what else to teach him.” Then we’ve gone on to talking about the great opportunity that exists for a baby or child to learn the soul of the language. Therein lies acquiring the language. The soul of the language lives in songs, stories, poems food, culture and love. The process of acquiring a language is not so much logical but more psychological. Have you noticed how quickly a person will learn a foreign language once they are in love?
I’m also a big fan of the uke. I think it has a sweet and soft tone that is appropriate for young children. In the future I would like to learn how to play the mandolin. It has an even sweeter sound. Simple instruments coupled with the natural voices of parents singing to them, is all that is needed to awaken a love for music, singing and imagination. In fact, I believe the simplicity makes it even better.
I wish to share and broaden my own knowledge of this beautiful language and culture with the next generation and with you, mother or father of a little one, or are preparing to be one…if you would like to join in. This is going to involve delving into songs and poems, storytelling, stories from here and there, participating with body and soul in the language… travelling with our imagination and inspiration! We will share our experiences in teaching the language as well as cultural habits, those of our ancestors as well as the beauty of the moment.
All who wish to enter this effort are welcome. There is just one requirement. Please be kind with all in this community. In order to learn and perfect a language we need to feel confident and enthusiastic. We are not. We will not be perfect. We are not know-it-alls. We do not believe that one language or dialect is better or will be better than another’s. We accept each other cordially. In fact, we celebrate and propel one another forward. What do you think?
